SAFE Program Funding Renewed
In October 2020, the Western Center for Agricultural Health and Safety (WCAHS) was funded by the California Labor and Workforce Development Agency (LWDA) with a $4.9 million contract to lead the COVID-19 Statewide Agriculture and Farmworker Education Program (SAFE Program) through June 2022. The SAFE Program rapidly deployed COVID-19 outreach and training throughout California’s agricultural regions while building programmatic capacity and engaging community and agricultural industry partners.
In the summer of 2022, WCAHS received funding from the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) to continue COVID-19 outreach and training with community and industry partners through June 2023.
The goals of the SAFE Program are to expand and strengthen COVID-19 knowledge, increase prevention behaviors—particularly the importance of vaccination—and build capacity among community-based organizations and agricultural employers to promote workplace safety.
