and Safety University of California, Davis Farmworker health in a binational context Rick Mines, California Institute for Rural Studies, Davis, CA The California Institute for Rural Studies has carried out three health studies of Mexican farmworkers over the last four years. This paper reviews the methods of these studies—a process that provides insights into the demographics and migration patterns of farmworkers. The findings of the studies reveal many of the main health problems facing farmworkers. The most important finding resulting from these various studies was that Mexican farmworkers encounter a severe cultural clash when they seek care in the U.S. A discussion of this clash will be the main focus of this paper.
